A Name, A Blessing, A Beginning: Celebrating Our Child’s 31st Day

In Hindu tradition we do a naming ceremony on the newborn’s 31st day. Depending on family beliefs this ritual can take place on the 11th, 21st, or 31st day after birth and also I realized families do this differently.

Our baby’s ceremony was held on the 31st day, and it was such a meaningful and beautiful experience.

The ceremony started with a puja, a ritual by a Hindu priest. He did some mantras and prayers to the four elements: air, earth, fire and water. Each element represent several powerful sources like: transformation, grounding, purity etc.

The priest explained everything through the ritual and he was also cleansing the home and removing negative energy, and creating a protected peaceful space for our newborn’s arrival.

I learned so much that day. I was amazed by how spiritual and intentional every part of the ceremony was. It was beautiful. I loved that it was about cleansing negativity, inviting peace and blessing into our lives.

It was a beautiful day that I’ll carry in my heart for forever <3
