Out with Ammamma & Ammappa: Watching My Parents as Grandparents

One of the many precious things about having a baby is definitely seeing your parents become grandparents. It makes me so happy to see my parents with our baby. They love him so much, and he is so lucky to have them as his grandparents. I’m so grateful and blessed. And he makes them so so happy as well! <3

I’ve been spending a lot of time with my parents, and I feel like our bond has grown even closer since having a baby. I also have so much respect for my parents when I think about them coming to Denmark as refugees, building a beautiful life for themselves, starting a family, and raising that family in a country they didn’t know, with a language they didn’t understand back then. It’s incredible.

I have so much respect for all they have accomplished and for everything they’ve given me to become the person I am today. Living in a multicultural community can be challenging, and sometimes it’s easy to blame our parents, especially since their upbringing and our upbringing are different, and some perspectives simply don’t align with life in a Western country in my opinion.

But I understand where they are coming from the older I got; why they feel certain ways because of their past, and why they want us to live a certain way because of the struggles they faced coming to Denmark. The older I get, the more I understand and respect them. Younger me would just be a teenager and think, “Why don’t you understand?” But I get it.

Anyway, what I’m really trying to say is: I love my parents, I love my baby, and I love seeing them all hanging out together. xD haha
