A New Home, A New Beginning

Soooo, we’ve been moving this month! What a beautiful way to end 2025 and start 2026. I’m so excited xD

We’ve slowly started moving into our new home, and we’ve stayed quite a bit at my parents’ place over the holidays. It has been such an amazing journey. To be honest, we didn’t plan to move at all; everything just happened so suddenly. I don’t think I’ve fully processed yet that we actually have a new home, but I’m so excited. I really love it.

I never dreamt of a home like this, but it feels like it was just meant to be. I always imagined myself living in a penthouse xD That was actually the dream for both of us. But when we saw this place, we both loved it and ended up buying it quite spontaneously. We knew we wanted to move at some point after having our first baby, but we weren’t in a rush. Then we saw this home and were like: yup, this is the one!

According to Hindu tradition, before moving into a new home, there is a ritual called paal kaachuthal, which means boiling milk. Milk is boiled in a new pot, and sugar, jaggery, or kalkandu (rock sugar) is added to make it sweet. The sweet milk is then shared with family and guests. This ritual is part of a house-entering ceremony, also known as Griha Pravesh.

I did some reading about the ritual since I didn’t know much about it. My mom guided me and helped find an auspicious date and time. The milk represents purity, nourishment, and life, while the sweetness symbolizes a happy, harmonious, and sweet life in the new home. The purpose of the ritual is to begin this new chapter with positivity and gratitude, and to invite peace, prosperity, and divine blessings. It’s so beautiful.
